Pumpkin Carving Creations

Some fun with our pumpkins for Halloween.

Polka Dot Cupcakes

I created these cuties for a sweet 16 birthday and one other time for a first birthday.  They are whimsical and fun.

I died my fondant to the requested color and used embossing sheets to create a print and layered with dots and circles.  Gluing on a silver candy ball makes them extra charming.

Space Invader Cup Cakes

You have to be of a certain age to appreciate these little alien treats.  They hail from the 1980’s when all we had was the Atari.  Incidentally, we still have an Atari and recently hooked it up to our 48” plasma TV it was great fun to play the old school games. The joy stick is harder on the thumb than we remembered.I digress…

If I had actually delivered these, I needed to make the white UFO at the top red.  I know that you already knew that though…
I need to say that once again, I found my inspiration and actual design from other cake artists online.
Just for the heck of it, I want to show you a partially finished Atari game system.  Because the huz was sick (see Pac Man Post) I didn’t bother finishing it. I thought it would  be wiser to spend my time taking care of him.

As you can see, I needed to paint silver and orange on the control panel details.  I didn’t even begin the joy sticks.  I think I am most proud of my wood grain work on the front.

The fist you see here is my son’s.  I allowed him to smash the cake with his hands before we threw it away.  Oh!  I should mention that my husband is all better now.  I might make another go of this concept at a later time.  It was going to be great.

Pac Man Cupcakes

These were prepared for my husbands 40th that never happened due to him coming down with the flu and pneumonia.  UGH.  The ended up in the trash.  TRAGEDY!!

I was inspired by a photo I saw online that not only created adorable Pac Man cupcakes but was clever enough to make a replica of the video game lay out.  You people are so clever!

Converse Tennis Shoes Cake

My wonderful sister in law is jennyonthespot.com.  If you don't already know about her, you should.  She is all about peace and sparkles and has won many awards for her blogging techniques.  So for me to blog about her is a little intimidating.  What I want to do here is introduce you to the super cute converse tennis shoes that were once her logo.  I made a replica of these  sparkly beauties for her 40th birthday party.

Here were some of the steps:

The end result was better than I expected.  We ended up with red sparkly Converse atop a bed of frosting grass.  The cupcake I made to complement were grass topped, classic cupcake frosting in turquoise and chocolate ganache with retro sugar flowers.

Time for an update... seriously.

I started this blog to help cake artists brainstorm ideas for their projects.  I have kick-ded up my clever cakes a notch and need to share.  I am most certainly not "all that" with this stuff.  Just an untrained cake lover with a desire for artistic outlet once in a while.  I value all of the cake artists I see online and find just what I need for inspiration for my own projects.

So starting from the most recent success, I will work backwards with pictures and engineering ideas for cake sculpting and clever cupcake ideas.
